Managing and Developing Sport BA (Hons)

This degree is aimed at those students committed to the provision, development, management, and administration of sport. The degree is distinctive in drawing together management theory and business principles, and applying them to the study of sport. Financial management and marketing, facility planning and design, operations and human resource deployment, and policy development are explored in the context of government efforts to promote a healthier, more active and inclusive society. The degree investigates commercial aspects of sport, including advertising, product endorsement and other forms of sponsorship. It also reviews local and community agendas against a backdrop of globalisation and free market economics.

FdA Youth Work
Aims to further students learning and career development within a formal or informal youth work setting. This programme will enable you to develop your practice within a Higher Education framework and to gain an HE award and a nationally recognised qualification in Youth Work which is accredited by the National Youth Agency.

BA Education and Training (Primary) with QTS

BA with QTS
This course is designed to meet the needs of those in early years and primary education who already have higher level credits and who are wishing to broaden their knowledge and understanding of theoretical and policy issues, including research methods, in education and gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

BSc (Hons) Sports Studies

The course explores sport as a social entity in relation to its historical, cultural, political and economic contexts. The foundation of human performance is explored through a study of physiology, psychology, motor development and biomechanics leading to an understanding of how the body and mind work in relation to physical activity, sport and health. The management and development of sport are explored through units concentrating on such issues as policy, strategy and finance. Coaching and teaching of sport are covered through units emphasising coaching theory and sports pedagogy.

Graduate Teacher Programme

The Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) offers a way to qualify as a teacher whilst working. It is a one-year programme of postgraduate training. With Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), a qualified teacher can work in any maintained school in England. The University of Southampton provides GTP courses for gaining QTS at both secondary and primary age ranges.

Overseas Trained Teacher Programme

If you are qualified as a teacher inside the EU, mobility laws apply and you can access teaching positions in the same way as 'home' trained teachers. If you are qualified as a teacher overseas and outside the EEA, you may be eligible to work in England as a temporary teacher without qualified teacher status (QTS) for up to four years.

Certificate in Education in Post Compulsory Education & Training (PCET)

The Certificate in Education (PCET) is the main professional qualification for the Post-School sector, covering post-compulsory education and training.

A valuable professional development programme designed for adult trainers, those working in Adult and Community Education, Health and Social Services, Armed Forces, Police and Emergency Services. The PCET is the essential qualification for those teaching and/or training, full or part time, in further education, public or private sector organisations.

BA (Hons) Education and Training (PCET)

The BA Education and Training (PCET) builds on the work completed in the Certificate in Education (Post Compulsory Education and Training) for candidates who do not already hold a degree. It provides an excellent opportunity for colleagues in the sector to gain the benefits of a degree based on study of direct relevance to their work and careers and to enhance their professional skills and knowledge.

Post Graduate Certificate in Education in Post Compulsory Education & Training (PCET)

This programme is a recognised teaching qualification for graduates who are teaching and/or training, working in full or part time in further education, in public or private sector organisations.

Post Graduate Certificate in Educational Study (PCES) courses

A Post Graduate Certificate in Educational Study (PCES) is a freestanding qualification that consists of taught modules of our Master's degrees programmes, providing you with numerous flexible pathways into study. These courses offer you the opportunity to undertake study at an advanced level and deepen your knowledge in specific subject areas without the full workload of a Master's degree.

This unique system allows you to build, over a period of time, enough credits to proceed to a dissertation gaining a full Master's degree at your own pace.

Doctorate of Education (EdD)

Integrated PhD in Education

This is a new unique taught research degree (full time only) leading to a PhD in Education which will allow students to gain a powerful combination of knowledge, skills and research experience that will make them highly employable in university teaching, government, public service and industry. The programme is fully equivalent to the highly regarded traditional PhD and combines a specific research project with a coherent programme of formal coursework. Through the taught element of the programme, you will develop a wide range of professional skills drawn from a menu of advanced taught modules.
