Sport at the University of Southampton
Our Programmes
The School of Education offers four programmes for the study of sport. The BSc (Hons) Sport Studies and the BA (Hons) Managing & Developing Sport recruit approximately 100 students each year. The BSc addresses various aspects of sport and covers a number of core areas (physiology, psychology, social and historical identity, and research methodology). The BA is aimed at those students interested in the provision, development, and management of sport; and focuses on key management skills such as planning, finance, marketing, and policy development. For students who already have a degree and wish to undertake masters level study we offer a MA in Policy and Strategy in Physical Activity and Sport. This programme is aimed at individuals already working in the sport industry and wish to strengthen and develop their knowledge. Finally, for people who wish to follow an advanced academic route the School offers research degree programmes such as M.Phil and PhD.
Our Research

Staff are involved research projects at local, national and international levels and are well respected in their fields more…..
Our Facilities
The School of Education (which houses the sport programmes at the University of Southampton) has recently refurbished much of its teaching space and relocated into a new multimillion £ building on campus; and students on this course will enjoy the world-class facilities and latest audio, visual and computer equipment. For students with a more physiological background, the school has a purpose built Human Performance Laboratory to undertake sport and physical activity research.
Furthermore, the University of Southampton has been designated an elite institution for the development of sporting potential, at national and international level. As a student here you will have access to the Jubilee Sports Centre, a state-of-the-art £8.5 million complex situated at the heart of the Highfield campus next to the Student Union.
