Description

" Thoroughly enjoyable course. Wonderful to get together with people from other educational backgrounds and organisations. The Course provides an opportunity to investigate and appreciate the bigger educational picture which, as classroom teachers, we often miss out on. I now feel much more confident in my future career in teaching." Local IT Tutor, Further Education College.
Post Compulsory Education continues to be at the centre of new initiatives and is experiencing change in an unprecedented way. As a result, the post compulsory sector requires staff who can understand the implications of these far reaching developments and who will be able to contribute in a knowledgeable way to their implementation. This BA will help you to meet those challenges and is the main teaching qualification for all educators in post-16 compulsory education. The programme will be relevant to your own professional development needs and will increase your skill and confidence in your career.
The BA Education and Training (PCET) is a specialist part time evening programme (equivalent to one year programme at third level degree) specially designed to provide an academic route of progression for non-graduate practitioners such as lecturers, trainers and instructors employed in post compulsory education and training field.
The BA Education and Training (PCET) builds on the work completed in the Certificate in Education (Post Compulsory Education and Training) for candidates who do not already hold a degree. It provides an excellent opportunity for colleagues in the sector to gain the benefits of a degree based on study of direct relevance to their work and careers and to enhance their professional skills and knowledge.
Students typically come from all areas of the post 16 sector including adult and community education, further education, institutional education, health services, uniformed services and work-based trainers.

Special Entry Requirements
The BA Education and Training (PCET) course is not appropriate for graduates but designed for established educators who work in the post 16 sector seeking a academic route of career progression. This programme will leave them with a recognised degree level qualification from the University of Southampton.
Candidates applying for entry must have already completed work equivalent to the first two years of a degree, such as a Certificate in Education (FE) or similar.
Lecturers, tutors and trainers seeking to gain a degree in Post Compulsory Education should enrol on the Certificate in Education (PCET) in the first instance, unless they already hold an equivalent qualification.
Direct Entry: The BA Education and Training (PCET) is the equivalent of a one year full time programme at third year degree level. It assumes that candidates applying directly for entry to the programme will have completed work equivalent to the first two years of a full time honours degree. The primary qualification for Direct Entry to the degree will be possession of a Certificate in Education (PCET) from the University of Southampton or equivalent award from another institution.
In addition to successful study on the Certificate in Education (PCET) candidates who already hold a Higher National Diploma or Higher National Certificate are eligible for direct entry (this includes a Registered Nurse qualification - RGN). Candidates may present other awards for consideration and each of these will be considered on its merits.
APEL Entry: A number of potential clients from the post compulsory sector hold very limited formal educational qualifications other than the Certificate in Education. Nonetheless these potential candidates have acquired considerable knowledge and skill through their professional work and may be able to provide evidence that they will be able to benefit from study on the BA Education and Training (PCET). Selection procedures will encourage such candidates to apply for Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) by providing evidence of prior learning at the appropriate level.
Please note that this programme is does not attract any mandatory grants. The fees are paid by either the students and/or the student's employer
