Aims

The PGCE (PCET) is a recognised teaching qualification for graduates teaching and/or training, full or part-time, in further education, public or private sector organisations. It is a valuable professional development programme for all adult trainers, those working in Adult and Community Education, the Health Services, Social Services, Armed Forces, Police and Emergency Services,. You will develop skills in planning, delivering and assessing learning activities, combined with the understanding of the learning process and background to post-compulsory education and training. The PGCE (PCET) is a SVUK endorsed qualification.

Structure

Year One concentrates on practical teaching and planning skills, development of teaching resources, and identifying and supporting the needs of individual students. Year Two puts more emphasis upon research and critical analysis of teaching and learning activities, course planning and the management of teaching in PCET.

You will develop skills in planning, delivering and assessing learning activities, combined with the understanding of the learning process and background to post-compulsory education and training.

Special Entry Requirements

All applicants are interviewed. You will need to have evidence of your degree qualification, and your commitment to developing your professional skills. You must have sufficient opportunity to teach or train during the PGCE programme (a total of 120 hours over two years). You will also need to show evidence of your qualifications and these should include Literacy and Numeracy or their equivalent at Level 2.
