Duration
September 2008 - September 2013
Description
A team from the University of Southampton, University of London, Institute of Education, National Institute for Economic and Social Research and University of Bristol has been awarded research funding by the Economic and Social Research Council (award no: RES 594-28-0001). A key aim of the research is to develop ideas to improve people’s life-chances and to help cities become both economically successful and socially cohesive. The research aims to understand the roles and perspectives of the various stakeholders in conceiving, designing and delivering policies, initiatives and programmes and to make suggestions for how future similar initiatives might be improved for the benefit of participants. As part of this research programme, projects are being conducted in Southampton, Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol.
In the Southampton project we are researching a range of education and training providers and individuals offering or participating in pre-employment training courses. The findings will be used to make suggestions for how this type of provision might be improved for the benefit of participants in the future.
