Project details: MINT Mentoring in Teacher Education
Research Team
1. Dr Tim Cain
Duration
January 2005 - August 2006
Description
MINT is an European project focusing on a very practical aspect of teacher education: What mentors do, how they interact with mentées, what makes “good” mentoring and how mentors can be trained. These are issues to be addressed by the MINT project. Mentoring is considered to be one of the most critical issues in teacher education and the professional development of teachers. In essence, it is the task of transforming and re-culturing the teaching profession itself by practitioners.
MINT is aiming at the review and development of different models of mentoring in teacher education by means of:
- Investigation of "best practices" of mentoring
- Clarification of basic features and perspectives
- Development of a competence profile of "good" mentors
- Identification of standards in relation to teacher education
- Training of professionals involved in mentoring
- Networking in research and development of teacher in-service institutions.
