Description
Building on previous work undertaken by members of the research team, the project examines the perspectives of local non-governmental organisations (NGOs), agencies and community members regarding partnerships in youth and community development work in Zambia. In particular, the project examines the following research questions:
- To what extent do the nature and forms of partnership between NGOs and other agencies involved in local youth and community development accord with conceptions of partnership held in the developed world?
- To what extent do local community members believe that there is a coherent approach by NGOs and other agencies to the overall provision of local youth and community development?
- What influence do local community members have on youth and community development provision?
By adopting an inclusive and collaborative approach to the research, it is hoped that the project’s findings will be of practical benefit for NGOs and agencies involved in youth and community development as well as enabling international donors and policy makers to gain a greater understanding of local contexts for their work.
The project is based on a case study approach with research being undertaken in two communities in Zambia’s capital, Lusaka. Planned for July 2009, data collection methods are primarily interviews with community stakeholders supported by observation of community events and activities.
