Faculty International Bursary Scheme (FIBS) scholarships

Description
FIBS scholarships are awarded by the Graduate School of the faculty of Law, Arts and Social Science (LASS), on the recommendation of the School of Education. This scheme, which is only for new students, was first approved in 2006.
- The award meets the difference between the Overseas Student (OS) fee and the Home / EU fee for up to three years for a student in (part-time or full-time) candidature for a PhD. One award is made annually in Education and is currently valued at just under £6000.
- Renewal of the award in the second and third years is subject to satisfactory progress.
- Students cannot nominate themselves directly; all nominations must come via the School. Nominated candidates usually hold a good upper second class honours degree (or equivalent) and a Masters Degree (or equivalent) with Distinction (or equivalent).
- As the awards do not cover maintenance or the Home / EU tuition fee element, applicants should consider how they will meet these costs and otherwise support themselves during their period in candidature. Support for the Home / EU element of the tuition fee and maintenance should be in place before an award holder takes up study.
- Integrated PhD students are not eligible in the first year (M-level) of candidature, but may apply during the first year for funding for Years 2, 3 and 4.
Further details can be found on the Faculty website: www.lassgrad.soton.ac.uk
Application
Only applications complete in every respect will be considered. Applicants must have been accepted in principle before they can be considered for a FIBS (or any other) award.

Closing date: The School of Education must forward its nomination(s) to the Deanery as soon as applications are made, but in any case before the end of January of the year of entry.
