UG Scholarships for Sport Courses

From October 2006, the School of Education will offer a number of scholarships to new entrants to undergraduate degree programmes in Sport (BSc Sport Science / BA Sport Management and Leadership). These will be awarded to candidates on the basis of both academic excellence and sporting achievement either in performance or in relation to community sport development.

1. The Sporting Achievement Scholarship

Awarded to a student who is achieving high standards in both academic and sporting profiles at the time of entry. Typically, it would go to a student who has an A grade A-level (or equivalent) in his/her most appropriate subject, and who is competing in representative sport at county level (or equivalent).

2. The Sports Industry Scholarship

Awarded to a student recruited direct from the sports industry (public, private, or voluntary) who wants to take a degree to improve his/her qualifications and career prospects. Applicants would need to produce a portfolio of work to demonstrate their standing in the sports industry, and would need to demonstrate academic excellence.

3. The Community Sport Scholarship

Awarded to a student with a combined excellence profile in community sport and academic study: for example, someone with an A in his/her sport-related A-level and a high level of involvement in community schemes in his/her sport. This would be similar to the Sporting Achievement Scholarship, but would recognise teaching, coaching, administration, officiating, and development work rather than sporting performance.

4. The Southampton Sport Scholarship

Awarded to an incoming student from a school or FE college in Hampshire (including Southampton and Portsmouth) and the Isle of Wight. This would be awarded to the student from the target area with the best overall A-level (or equivalent) score combined with a clearly defined sporting portfolio.

If you want to apply for one of these, you can do so after we have made you an offer of a place. The selection process will include the submission of portfolios of evidence, and an interview. Each scholarship will be worth £1,000 per academic year over the three years of the course. For more information, contact the admissions tutor for the programme of your choice.

UG Scholarships for Education Courses

The School will also offer a number of Scholarships each valued at up to £800 per annum for entrants to the part-time BA(Hons) Education and Training (PCET), awarded on the basis of academic excellence. Please ask your admissions tutor for further details on how to apply.

All Scholarships will be reviewed annually and will be renewed subject to good academic progress.
