School of Education Studentship

Description

A School of Education studentship is also available for home or overseas students. The funding covers the overseas fee (£9,380) or provides the equivalent sum to a home student.

This studentship provides access to an ESRC accredited Research Training Programme, a well resourced library and a vibrant seminar programme as well as opportunities within the faculty’s graduate school. We particularly welcome applicants planning to study in one of the school’s well-established research areas: leadership and management; school effectiveness; educational decision-making and transitions through the life course; policy analysis and pedagogy in compulsory, vocational, further and higher education; vocational and workplace learning and participation; use of digital technologies; science and mathematics education; teacher education; and diversity, inclusive education and social justice.

Its discipline base is broad, encompassing all the major academic subjects, but with a particular commitment to innovation and the advancement, communication and application of knowledge through critical and independent scholarship and research of international significance. It is one of the leading research-intensive universities in the UK and hosts the National Centre for Research Methods in social sciences, funded by the ESRC. The School of Education is one of the largest and most active centres of educational research in the UK with a wide range of research projects, involving regional and national partners, and students from countries around the world. Collaboration with practitioners and stakeholders in education is a key element, resulting in educational innovation and a significant impact on practice and policy.

Students should apply for the MPhil/PhD in the usual way, but include a letter indicating the studentship they wish to be considered for, outlining in no more than 500 words why the quality of the application makes them a good candidate for funding support. The closing date for applications is Friday 15th May 2009.
