Biography
I started out my working life as a trainee Chartered Surveyor and ended up as a residential property sales negotiator before I returned to full time education. As a mature student I studied for a B.Ed. at La Sainte Union (LSU) College of Higher Education. My special subject was Geography and I was trained for the middle school age range.
Having qualified as a teacher I taught at a Junior School in Romsey, Hampshire for several years. Having previously used word processors, spreadsheets and databases an knowing what a Floppy Disk was, I soon had responsibility for ICT within the school supported some other schools in the county. I participated in ‘Ask a Scientist’ days which made use of early Schools internet connections. I was given an opportunity to be seconded back to LSU to support the teacher training programmes in ICT. This secondment eventually became a full time post. During my time at LSU I was the Co-ordinating tutor for the Year 1 B.Ed. students. I also was involved in the validation, setup and teaching of an MSc in Computer Based Learning and Training (CBLT).
When LSU closed, I returned to the primary classroom on a part-time basis acting as a floating teacher and supporting ICT. At this time I studied on the MSc CBLT which had transferred to the Research and Graduate School of Education at the University of Southampton.
With the expansion of Teacher Education at the University I gained a post to support the teaching of ICT on both the Primary and Secondary PGCE programmes. I also took responsibility for some of the units on the CBLT programme.
I currently have a number of roles with the School of Education including being the Associate Director of Advanced Programmes and the management of the QTS skills test centre.
