Biography
Caroline Walker is a Senior Teaching fellow on the BA QTS in the School of Education. She began her teaching career 22 years ago and has undertaken a variety of teaching roles including a short period as a supply teacher. Predominately she has experience of working in infant schools.
She has taken on various roles including subject leader, teacher mentor to students, senior teacher, teacher governor, Early Years Manager and ICT Manager. After promotion to Deputy Head she became a key member of the senior management team that later led to two periods as Acting Headteacher.
She has taught all year groups throughout the primary school.
Caroline has first hand experience of the process of school reorganisation, being directly involved in creating a primary school from an existing infant and junior school. This role involved moving the school twice to different locations, selecting and interviewing a large number of staff, working closely with architects on the design of the building, the ICT requirements and especially creating a purpose built Early Years unit with all weather outdoor play area.
She has a particular interest in learning through play and the outdoor environment as a classroom.
She gained the NPQH qualification in 2003.
Caroline’s interest in Early Years led to an opportunity to work on the pilot project for the EYPS with University of Southampton in her role as Assessor. This involves working with candidates and visiting them in their Early Years settings. She is now continuing this role with the University of Winchester in association with her role at the University of Southampton.
