Biography

Felix Maringe is a lecturer in the School of Education at University of Southampton teaching on the PGCE science and the MA (Ed) courses. His involvement in science education dates back to 1979 as a secondary school teacher of science for ten years up to 1989. He became a science teacher trainer in 1990 first in a teacher’s college for four years and then in universities in Zimbabwe until 2000. He read for his PhD in Higher Education Marketing at the University of Southampton, graduating in 2004.

Felix has a passion for multidisciplinary, multi-site and comparative research framed in a post-positivist orientation with an underlying emphasis on organisational management and its impact on customer perceptions and attitudes.

His has published in refereed journals on Higher Education Marketing, led an evaluation of a local education authority Pathfinder Project, contributed to a national DfES sponsored project on post 16 decision making and education and training choices. Currently he is researching into patterns of science teacher training in the UK and Zimbabwe and working on a proposal for a comparative review of science teacher training in the European Union. Other medium term projects include writing and contributing chapters to book projects on Higher Education management and science education.
