Gail studied Biological Sciences at the University of Leicester and on completion of a Secondary PGCE taught science in secondary schools in England and Northern Ireland. After a short period outside education she taught science to adults at night school and so began her move into Post Compulsory Education and Training. On commissioning into the army she taught vocational courses, to serving members in England and Germany and completed a PGCE (FE) and a Masters Degree.
