Biography

Kalwant Bhopal is Reader in Education and Head of the Pedagogy and Curriculum Research Centre in the School of Education. Her areas of interest and expertise are centred around the achievements and experiences of minority ethnic groups in education. She has a great deal of research experience in examining the lives of South Asians and other minority ethnic groups in London. More recently she has been analysing the social exclusion faced by Gypsy Traveller pupils in schools in London. After obtaining her PhD, Kalwant worked at the Thomas Coram Research Unit (Institute of Education, University of London) where she led projects examining the experiences of Gypsy Traveller children in schools and children’s concepts of care in different family forms.
