Biography
Marcus Grace taught science at comprehensive schools in London and Essex. He spent five years in Japan as a researcher at Yokohama National University and was a Headteacher at a Berlitz school in Tokyo. He is now Deputy Head (Academic) at the School of Education, University of Southampton and a senior lecturer in science education and environmental education, teaching on undergraduate, masters and postgraduate initial teacher training programmes.
Until recently he was secretary of the Association of Tutors in Science Education (ATSE), Director of the Science Learning Centre South East and chaired the Darwin 200 Continuing Professional Development sub-committee. He reviews papers for the International Journal of Science Education and Environmental Education Research. His main research interests are in teaching and learning about controversial socio-scientific issues, particularly in relation to biological conservation issues and the science underpinning education for biodiversity, sustainability and citizenship. Funded research projects have included work commissioned by Research Councils UK (RCUK), the Wellcome Trust, WWF UK and the Countryside Education Trust.
