Biography
Ruth is a highly experienced teacher having many years experience working in secondary schools and post 16 institutions. She has taught across a wide range of mathematics programmes at all levels.
She spent a year teaching in a tertiary college in Melbourne, Australia during which time she undertook a small scale comparative research project into homework and work requirements for which she was awarded the Council for British Teachers Annual Exchange Prize.
Ruth has always been interested in adult education, writing and developing courses for the Hampshire Access Validating Agency (HAVA) and focusing her Masters dissertation on adult learners’ perceptions of using technology.
More recently she has been closely involved with the skills agenda and works in a consultancy role for the Learning Skills Network (LSN) advising managers, teachers and learning providers on functional skills and their implementation. In addition, she works as a critical reviewer and examiner for two of the countries leading awarding bodies.
Her research interests include the transferability of mathematics to outside the classroom and applied and practical approaches to learning.
