Information for Secondary PGCE Students
What are tuition fees?
PGCE teacher training programmes are covered under the new fee scheme. The University of Southampton will charge Home/EU postgraduate students who are starting full-time teacher training courses £3145 regardless of whether enrolling immediately following a degree course or at a later stage.
In contrast to previous years students will no longer have to pay fees up front each year during their period of study. The maximum fee chargeable will not rise by more than the rate of inflation before 2010 at the earliest.
Can I get a loan?
The cost of the fees will become part of a loan which you will begin paying back when working and earning greater than £15,000 per annum. In effect the more you earn, the more you pay back.
As a student studying in higher education you are entitled to a student loan. There are two types of loan available
- a loan to cover the cost of your tuition fees your course charges
- a maintenance loan to cover living expenses
Criminal Records Bureau Check
All School of Education staff and students who may have any responsibility of care when working with young people are required to be screened by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) to ensure that they are suitable candidates for such work.
If you have accepted your offer with us you will be sent information on how to obtain your Enhanced Level CRB document. This must be completed prior to you beginning the course. Details and information can also be found on the CRB website. It is strongly recommended that you begin this process as soon as possible.
