Courses

Many of our students are already working as teachers, lecturers and trainers and come to us seeking further professional development. Advanced study is essential for people who work in the highly complex areas of education and training and our graduates have an excellent record of gaining employment. We offer a variety of flexible patterns of study. Students can study full time over 12 months or part time over 24. We can offer courses through flexible study, distance learning and by modules allowing students in employment to study while still continuing to advance their own professional careers. There are no formal written examinations, you will be assessed continuously through your attendance, seminar contributions and your written assignments.
Career destinations of our students include key roles in governmental departments, career researchers, heads of research units, co-ordinators of institutional development, special educational need co-originators, learning support managers, educational inspectors, academic heads of departments, educational marketers, bursars, in-house trainers, freelance educational consultants, voluntary and basic skill workers, adult education staff, armed forces training and youth work as just a start.
As part of one of the top research led universities in the United Kingdom, we were awarded a grade 4 in our most recent Research Assessment Exercise, demonstrating our research as of international and national excellence. This dedication feeds directly into our teaching, as many of your lecturers will be leading experts in their fields, ensuring all students are exposed to innovative instruction. Our programmes are regularly inspected by organisations such as OfSTED and the Higher Education Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). We have been highly praised in areas of teaching as "outstanding" and "excellent". OfSTED have said that our courses provide high quality training and that our tutors are "very well qualified and provide excellent mentoring". Recent inspections by the QAA awarded our programmes a maximum score of 24/24 points for the quality of our teaching, learning and support and commitment to students.
