Description

"Excellent quality of sessions and great support from tutors"

University-based sessions:
The course seeks to equip you to teach French, German or Spanish as a means of communication to pupils of a range of ages and abilities within the framework of the National Curriculum. The approach is practical and participatory. Sessions will feature discussion, collaborative work, individual work, experiential learning and the active participation of members of the group. After an initial exploration of essential principles, techniques and classroom activities, you are encouraged to organise lessons which make use of both published materials and individual creativity. Opportunities exist to teach a second language.

School Experience:
You will spend two-thirds of your time on the course in school. You will experience two different schools; one before Christmas and one after. Particular emphasis is placed by mentors in schools on the planning and delivery of MFL lessons. You will receive detailed guidance on what is expected of you in school.

"Well organised"

"Relaxed atmosphere"

This course requires you to have at least 50% of your degree in your first foreign language subject. If this is German or Spanish you should also be able to offer French beyond basic competence.

Careers Prospects:
Teaching is a rewarding profession in more ways than one, offering fantastic career prospects and development opportunities. The variety of potential career paths available can see you enjoy all kinds of experiences, roles and responsibilities. In secondary schools you can move up the management structure to gain responsibility as a head of department or head of faculty.

Ultimately, you could progress to a senior management position such as deputy or assistant head and/or headteacher - at which point you would have overall responsibility for the management of a school and the education its pupils receive.
