Biography

I studied at Bristol University, graduating with a BSc in Geography, followed by a PGCE. I then taught geography, maths and swimming in an 11 – 18 mixed comprehensive school in Bristol. After a career break, I spent 9 years teaching in a Southampton comprehensive school, taking various roles including Head of Department and mentor for ITE. At the same time I completed my MA (Ed) through part-time study at Southampton University, with my dissertation focusing on patterns of achievement at GCSE in geography. I also taught in Higher Education for the Open University; tutoring an Environmental Policy unit.

I am currently the programme tutor for the secondary geography PGCE course and I also make contributions to the Primary PGCE course and to the GTP programme. My own appreciation of our wonderful world has been fueled by some excellent teaching, together with opportunities for travel and fieldwork, so I am enthusiastic about supporting the development of high quality, inspirational, teachers of geography.
